Arbitration as a dispute resolution forum has grown increasingly popular over the past few decades. Data released by major arbitral institutions such as the SIAC, HKIAC, LCIA, and AAA shows a steady rise in users of this private dispute resolution mechanism. In 2020, for instance, Asia’s two leading arbitral bodies—SIAC and HKIAC—both recorded new milestones: SIAC handled 1,080 new cases with a total dispute value of USD 11.25 billion, while HKIAC registered 483 total cases (318 of them new) with a combined value of USD 8.8 billion.
