Energy

The Energy Bill passed the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat / DPR) on 17 July 2007. The Bill if not signed by the President within 30 days of it being passed will self-execute on day 30 meaning the Bill will come into full force and effect no later than 16 August 2007. The basic premise of the Bill is to facilitate the implementation of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. The Article mandates that energy is a resource that is to be controlled by the State with a view to ensuring the prosperity of the community; in essence energy is to be managed in such a way as the security and the benefits derived from Indonesia's energy resources are done so for the greatest benefit of the community as a whole.
