In 2019, the government established a legal framework for battery-powered, electric vehicles (“ BEV ”) and their industrial base through the issuance of Regulation of the President No. 55 of 2019 on the Acceleration of the Battery-Powered, Electric Motor Vehicles for Road Transportation Program (“ Regulation 55/2019 ”). [1] However, given that certain adjustments needed to be made in order to further improve the aforementioned framework (e.g. scope of BEV and domestic component levels [Tingkat Komponen Dalam Negeri– “ TKDN ”]), the government has now issued Regulation of President No. 79 of 2023 on the Amendment to Regulation 55/2019 (“ Amendment ”), which has been in force since 8 December 2023.
