Bapanas Takes the Lead in Fresh Produce Oversight: Prohibition on Distributing Contaminated Food Now Extended to Manufacturers

The government has decided to revise various provisions on food safety that were originally featured under Regulation of the Government No. 86 of 2019 on Food Safety (“ Regulation 86/2019 ”) [1] through the issuance of Regulation of the Government No. 1 of 2026 on the Amendment to Regulation 86/2019 (“ Amendment ”), which has been in force since 5 January 2026. [2] The aforementioned revisions have been introduced in response to the mandate to establish a government institution responsible for the food sector that was set out under Regulation of the Government in Lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022 on Job Creation, as well as in response to market dynamics within the strategic food safety environment. [3]
