Bill on Civil Procedure Law - Codification for a Uniform National Law

The reality for an independent State that was once colonized is that the colonizers often leave much of their systems and institutions in place irrespective of whether they leave voluntarily or are forced out. This is a reality for Indonesia even now, some 61 years after gaining independence from their Dutch colonizers. There are many reasons for this and the most often cited is the transitional provisions in the 1945 Constitution. These provisions allow for all existing laws at the time of independence to remain in force until they are repealed or amended. It is within this framework that the Bill on Civil Procedure Law (Bill) has been released for socialization. The socialization period is designed to solicit feedback and input for the perfection of bills before they reach the House of Representatives for deliberation and debate.
