BPOM Classifies Vitamin D in Certain Dosages as Special-Purpose Health Supplement

In an attempt to protect the general public from any undesired side effects as a result of the misuse of vitamin D in dosages of between 1000 IU and 4000 IU (“ Vitamin D ”), and to ensure that all distributed Vitamin D products are in compliance with the determined standards and requirements relating to security, benefits and quality, the Head of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan– “ BPOM ”) has issued Decree No. HK.02.02.1.2.12.21.468 of 2021 (“ Decree 468/2021 ”). Decree 468/2021 determines that Vitamin D, specifically Vitamin D3 in a single form, is now categorized as a special-purpose health supplement that can be used in order to fulfill any immediate need for Vitamin D.
