In an effort to protect the public from any processed foods that do not meet requirements relating to safety, quality, nutrition and labeling, the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan– “ BPOM ”) is currently preparing Draft Regulation of the BPOM of 2022 on the Registration of Processed Foods (“ Draft Regulation ”). [1] When the Draft Regulation eventually comes into force, Regulation of the Head of the BPOM No. 27 of 2017 (“ Regulation 27/2017 ”), [2] as amended by Regulation of the BPOM No. 7 of 2021 (collectively referred to as “ Regulation 27/2017 ”), which is the current legal framework for the registration of processed foods, will be repealed and replaced.
