Bridging Borders: Govt. to Establish Framework for Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Court Judgments under New Private International Law Bill

The Indonesian Government and the country’s House of Representatives are currently completing work on a new Draft Bill on Private International Law (“ Draft Bill ”), which has been incorporated into the list of 67 bills that are scheduled to be debated as a part of the 2026 Priority National Legislation Program (Program Legislasi Nasional Prioritas/Prolegnas Prioritas). [1] The Draft Bill aims to establish a comprehensive and integrated legal framework that will address various areas relating to foreign legal systems and will hopefully provide greater legal certainty regarding cross-border activities, which are continuing to increase as transnational economic, social and cultural interactions expand.
