In 2019, the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan– “ BPOM ”) introduced Regulation No. 12 of 2019 on Cosmetics Contamination (“ Regulation 12/2019 ”). As its title suggests, this framework sets out a range of applicable safety and efficacy requirements for various substances that often unintentionally and unavoidably end up in cosmetics products as a result of processing, storage and/or that are carried over from the processing of the original raw materials (“ Contamination ”).
