Amidst the current ongoing Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and in the face of significant protests from the Indonesian public, the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat-“ DPR ”) has nevertheless decided to press on with its plans and finally passed the Bill on Job Creation (“ Bill ”) during a plenary meeting which was held on 5 October 2020. [1] According to an official report released by the House Legislative Body (Badan Legislatif/Baleg), the latest version of the Bill that has now passed excludes seven laws which were included under previous drafts, while four additional laws on taxation have also been inserted into the Bill. [2] With a final output that comprises some 15 chapters and 186 articles, one of the underlying purposes behind the introduction of the Bill is the optimization and expansion of opportunities for the Indonesian labor force.
