On 15 February 2022, Indonesia’s House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat– “ DPR ”) finally approved the Bill on Sports (“ Sports Bill ”), which will replace the previous legal framework of Law No. 3 of 2005 on the National Sports System (“ Law 3/2005 ”). [1] The issuance of the new Sports Bill has largely been motivated by the fact that the previous framework of Law 3/2005 has already been in force for over 17 years and thus the DPR believes it necessary to establish new arrangements for sporting institutions under the national legal system.
