In line with the 2015 National Legislation Program, the House of Representatives (House) is currently discussing the Draft Bill on Trademarks (“Draft Bill”). [1] In essence, the Draft Bill aims to facilitate improved industrial, trading, and investment sectors through the revision of obsolete provisions originally set out under Law No. 15 of 2001 on Trademarks (“Trademark Law”). [2] The Draft Bill describes a number of updated provisions which are set to become part of an Indonesian trademark framework. This framework incorporates a total of 103 articles, the overall aim of which is to accommodate a number of developments which have occurred over the course of the last decade. Due to the wide-ranging nature of this framework, this edition of Indonesian Legal Brief (ILB) will limit its discussions to the following matters:
