In an effort to further improve the levels of protection provided to Indonesian migrant workers (Pekerja Migran Indonesia– “ PMI ”) in relation to human trafficking, slavery, forced labor, violence, arbitrary treatment, exploitation, crimes against human dignity and other human rights violations, Indonesia’s House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat– “ DPR ”), working alongside its government counterparts, is currently completing work on the Draft Bill (“ Draft Bill ”) on the Third Amendment to Law No. 18 of 2017 on the Protection of PMI, which was most recently amended by Regulation of the Government in Lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022 on Job Creation (collectively referred to as “ Law 18/2017 ”).
