Electrical Support-Service Activity Undertaken by Incorporated Business Entities Regulated

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (“Minister”) has issued Regulation No. 12 of 2016 (“Amendment”), which amends Ministerial Regulation No. 35 of 2013 on Licensing Procedures for Electrical Power Companies (“2013 Regulation”).The Amendment updates various provisions relating to licensing requirements and procedures for unincorporated business entities which are engaged in the provision of supporting-electricity services in a bid to improve service and supply for consumers. [1] The Amendment is of relevance to businesses which are engaged in the supply of electrical power.Business TypesSupporting-electricity services, as defined under the 2013 Regulation, comprise of a broad range of service activities, for example consultations on electrical installations, construction and assembly of electrical installations, etc. [2] Previously, the 2013 Regulation stipulated that only the following types of business entities may engage in support services: [3]
