Government Recognition of Tin Bullion Export Activities

The rising price of tin ensures that the Government is earning considerable foreign exchange from tin exports. These earnings have become significant enough that the Government believes that tin bullion exports need to be expressly regulated. The Minister of Trade has issued RegulationNo. 04/M-DAG/PER/1/2007on Tin Bullion Exports. The Regulation will directly impact on the export activities of any company involved in the export of tin. Currently, Indonesia's 2 biggest exporters of tin are PT. Timah and PT Koba Tin, both of whose primary base of operations is Bangka Island. In essence the Regulation will provide for the registration of tin exporters through the Director General of International Trade (Dirjen Daglu). Only registered tin exporters will be permitted to export tin.
