Govt. Introduces New CCS Related Framework: A Glimpse in Navigating Carbon Storage Activities

In early 2024, the government issued Regulation of the President No. 14 of 2024 on the Implementation of Carbon Capture and Storage Activities (“ Regulation 14/2024 ”), [1] which has been serving as the umbrella framework for the organization of all Carbon Capture and Storage (“ CCS ”) related activities. Pursuant to Regulation 14/2024, there are two available schemes for the organization of CCS, with one of these involving the securing of Exploration and Operations Permits prior to carrying out carbon injection and storage in Carbon Storage License Areas (Wilayah Izin Penyimpanan Karbon– “ WIPK ”).
