Govt. Redefines Emissions-Quality Standards for Certain Motor Vehicles

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry(“Ministry”)has issued Regulation No. P.20/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/3/2017 of 2017 on Emissions-Quality Standards for New Types of Category M, Category N and Category O Motor Vehicles (“Regulation 20/2017”). Regulation 20/2017 is hoping to lead to Indonesia's roads being utilized by more environmentally friendly motor vehicles by mandating that the automotive industry satisfies new emissions quality standards, which are commonly referred to as the EURO 4 standard.Prior to the issuance of Regulation 20/2017, this same matter was regulated under Ministry Regulation No. 04 of 2009 (“Regulation 4/2009”).Emissions-Regulation 20/2017 requires all businesses and/or parties who engage in the production and import of motor vehicles [1] (collectively referred to as“Businesses”) to comply with the various provisions on emissions-quality standards which are stipulated under Appendix I to Regulation 20/2017.
