The Minister of Law and Human Rights (“Minister”) has issued Regulation No. 4 of 2016 on Intellectual Property Incentives (“Regulation”) in order to encourage the public to register their items of intellectual property (“IP”), with the aim of providing better protection for IP. [1] With this purpose in mind, the Regulation sets out the legal basis and guidelines for the offering of financial incentives for the registration of intellectual property rights with the Director General of Intellectual Property (“Director General”).The Regulation is of relevance to any party intending to register intellectual property rights.IncentiveThe Regulation stipulates that the Minister is authorized to offer financial incentives to the following parties, so that they register their intellectual property rights: [2]
