Govt. Renews Procedures for Issuance and Registration of IUP under Certain Conditions

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (“ Minister ”) recently issued Decree No. 297.K/MB.01/MEM.B/2023 on Processing Procedures for the Issuance and Registration of Mining Business Licenses (“ Decree 297/2023 ”) in response to a number of problems that have emerged regarding the processing of mining business licenses in the wake of the introduction of previous Decree of the Minister No. 15.K/HK.02/MEM.B/2022 (“ [1] including overlapping Mining Business Licenses Areas (Wilayah Izin Usaha Pertambangan –“ WIUP ”) for the same commodities and unregistered Mining Business Licenses (Izin Usaha Pertambangan–“ IUP ”) that are discovered during IUP reconciliation reporting, and so forth. [2] As a result, the promulgation of Decree 297/2023 on 15 September 2023 revoked the Previous Decree and declared it invalid. [3]
