In order to ensure the sustainability of Indonesia’s fisheries resources and oceanic ecosystems, the Government of Indonesia became a signatory to the Agreement on Port State Measures on 22 November 2009. This agreement specifically targets Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (“ IUU ”) fishing activities and was ultimately ratified by the Indonesian Government on 4 May 2016 through the issuance of Regulation of the President No. 43 of 2016 on the Ratification of the Agreement on Port State Measures, which specifically targets IUU fishing activities.
