Halal Compliance Tightened for Meat Products: Stricter Slaughter Timelines, Traceability Mandate and Automated Processing Machinery Introduced

The Head of the National Agency of Halal Product Assurance (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal– “ BPJPH ”) has issued Decree No. 160 of 2026 on Guidelines for the Implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System During Ruminant and Poultry Slaughter (“ Decree 160/2026 ”). The issuance of Decree 160/2026 has resulted in the simultaneous repeal and replacement of Decree of the BPJPH No. 77 of 2023 (“ Decree 77/2023 ”), which addresses the same matters as Decree 160/2026.
