Higher Standards for Nuclear Safety and Compliance in the Pipeline: Get Ready for the Big Bang!

First introduced back in 1997, Law No. 10 of 1997 on Nuclear Energy, which was subsequently amended by Regulation of the Government in Lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022 on Job Creation (collectively referred to as “ Law 10/1997 ”), addresses a wide range of aspects that specifically relate to the utilization of nuclear materials (e.g. research and development, commercial usage, radioactive waste management and so forth). However, in an effort to ensure that any provisions that specifically address the utilization of nuclear energy are in line with current requirements, as well as to provide further legal certainty in terms of the utilization of nuclear materials, the Draft Bill on the Second Amendment to Law 10/1997 (“ Draft Amendment ”) has now been made available to the general public.
