Initial Phase of Gradual Mandatory Halal Certification Ends: Medium- and Large-Scale Food and Beverage Manufacturers Beware!

The Government has officially introduced an updated framework for the organization of halal product guarantees (Jaminan Produk Halal– “ JPH ”) through the issuance of Regulation of the Government No. 42 of 2024 on the Organization of Halal Product Guarantees (“ Regulation 42/2024 ”). [1] Upon entering into force on 17 October 2024, [2] this new framework simultaneously repealed and replaced Regulation of the Government No. 39 of 2021 , which bore the same title as Regulation 42/2024 (“ Regulation 39/2021 ”) [3] as the previous framework for the organization of JPH. [4] However, it should be noted that any implementing frameworks to Regulation 39/2021 will remain applicable, provided that the provisions set out therein are in line with those outlined under Regulation 42/2024.
