In a bid to offer improved protection to micro-, small- and medium-scale enterprises (“ UMKM ”), the Commission for the Supervision of Business Competition (Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha– “ KPPU ”) recently strengthened its authority as regards the handling of violations relating to business partnerships involving UMKM through the issuance of Regulation No. 4 of 2019 on Procedures for the Supervision and Handling of Partnership Cases (“ Regulation 4/2019 ”). Since preventive measures have been found to be ineffective, the KPPU has now decided to shift its focus to a more punitive approach. [1]
