Bank Indonesia issued Circular Letter No. 13/22/DASP dated 18 October 2011, regarding the Implementation and Use of Chip and Personal Identification Number Technology for ATM and/or Debit Cards Issued in Indonesia (“Circular Letter”). The purpose of the Circular Letter includes new provisions on the implementation of chip and personal identification number (PIN) technology, to improve the security and convenience of ATM and/or debit cards and support the development of card based payment instruments (APMK).
