Monetizing Maritime Carbon: Five Maritime Activities Now Linked to Carbon Economic Value

Following the enforcement of Regulation of the President No. 98 of 2021 on the Implementation of Carbon Economic Value (Nilai Ekonomi Karbon– “ NEK ”) to Achieve Nationally Determined Contribution (“ NDC ”) Targets and Control over Greenhouse Gas (“ GHG ”) Emissions in Relation to National Development (“ Regulation 98/2021 ”), ^[1] the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has now decided to introduce a set of procedures for the organization of carbon trading and performance-based payments within the maritime sector through the issuance of Regulation No. 1 of 2025 (“ Regulation 1/2025 ”), which has been in force since14 January 2025.
