On 17 July 2026, several Indonesian advocate organizations have prepared and formally submitted a Draft Bill on Advocates and Advocates Organizations (“ Draft Bill ”) to the Ministry of Law. [1] Although the current version of the Draft Bill has yet to expressly address the repeal or replacement of Law No. 18 of 2003 on Advocates (“ Law 18/2003 ”) upon its future enforcement, the Draft Bill recognizes that Law 18/2003 no longer reflects current legal needs, the changing landscape of the legal profession or Indonesia’s Constitutional Court (Mahkamah Konstitusi– “ MK ”) decisions, making its replacement necessary. [2]
