New Mangrove Planning Framework Introduced: 30-Year Management Plans Set to Reclassify Certain Commercial Areas as Protected Zones

The Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (“ Minister ”) has issued Regulation No. 8 of 2026 (“ Regulation 8/2026 ”) on Procedures for the Stipulation of and Changes to Mangrove Ecosystem Functions, the Formulation and Stipulation of and Changes to the Master Plan for the Mangrove Landscape Unit (Kesatuan Lanskap Mangrove– “ KLM ”), [1] as Well as the Formulation and Stipulation of and Changes to the Mangrove Ecosystem Protection and Management Plan (Rencana Perlindungan dan Pengelolaan Ekosistem Mangrove- “ RPPEM ”).
