As a result of various technological advances, a number of different types of bottled drinking water are now available to Indonesian consumers, including mineral water, de-mineralized water, natural mineral water and dew drinking water (which are collectively referred to as “Bottled Drinking Water”).In a bid to better ensure the safety and quality of such Bottled Drinking Water products, the Ministry of Industry (“Ministry”) has issued Regulation No. 78/M-IND/PER/11/2016 on the Mandatory Implementation of Indonesian National Standards for Mineral Water, De-mineralized Water, Natural Water and Dew Drinking Water(“Regulation 78/2016”), which offer updated guidelines for both manufacturers and for importers of Bottled Drinking Water (“Businesses”) as regards compliance with the obligation to implement certain Indonesian National Standards (Standar Nasional Indonesia– “SNI”) for their products.Prior to the issuance of Regulation 78/2016, such guidelines were regulated under Ministry Regulation No. 49/M-IND/PER/3/2012 on the Mandatory Imposition of Indonesian National Standards for Bottled Drinking Water (“Regulation 49/2012”).Mandatory Implementation of SNIRegulation 78/2016 requires Businesses to implement certain mandatory SNIs with regard to Bottled Drinking-Water products that fall under the following SNI numbers and harmonized-system (“HS”)codes: [1]
