In 2024, Regulation of the Government No. 42 of 2024 (“ Regulation 42/2024 ”) came into force and has since then been serving as the framework that governs the organization of halal product guarantees. [1] Regulation 42/2024 requires halal certification to be secured for all products that are imported into, and circulated and traded within Indonesia. However, it should be noted that products derived from non-halal materials are exempted from this requirement. [2] As such, all businesses that manufacture non-halal products must affix non-halal remarks to their products, while said remarks are required to meet certain criteria (e.g. must be easily visible and readable).
