Ports - A Draft Bill

The current Draft Bill on Ports (Bill) is being discussed and debated in the Regional Representatives Council (DPD / Dewan Perwakilan Daerah). The Bill is recognition that the Law on Shipping (Law No. 21 of 1992) is no longer representative of current port conditions and needs in the 21st Century. There has been considerable debate about formulating a separate law for ports distinct from the current provisions contained in the Shipping Law (see ILB 27/4/2006) and with increasing deregulation and competition in the ports sector it would appear to make good sense to have a separate law.
