Presidential Instruction - Policy Package to Boost Economic Growth, Alleviate Poverty and Reduce Unemployment

The Government has confirmed Presidential InstructionNo. 6 of 2007on Policies to Accelerate Development of the Real Sector and Empower Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises to Promote Economic Growth and to Alleviate Unemployment and Poverty (Instruksi Presiden / Inpres). Despite the long title of the Inpres the focus is restricted to 4 main areas: improvements to the investment climate, financial sector reform; acceleration of infrastructure development; and the empowerment of micro, small, and medium scale enterprises (Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menegah / UMKM). It is expected that the Inpres will promote transparency and greater levels of Government accountability as it sets out specific policies will explicit action programs and clear targets to be achieved.
