The House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat/DPR) officially approved the Bill on Crimes of Sexual Violence (“ Bill ”) during a plenary meeting that was held on 12 April 2022. From the perspective of the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (“ Minister ”), the contents of the Bill are being lauded for their progressive nature, as they define various types of sexual violence alongside clear statements on other related forms of sexual violence. Furthermore, the Bill also regulates a comprehensive procedural legal framework that recognizes and guarantees the rights of victims, including post-sexual protection from violence and the rehabilitation of victims.
