Quantity Limitations on Hand-Carry Goods Permitted for Importation by International Travelers and PMI Officially Revoked

In March 2024, the Minister of Trade (“ Minister ”) issued Regulation No. 3 of 2024 (“ Amendment ”) on the Amendment to Regulation No. 36 of 2023 on Import Policy and Provisions (collectively referred to as “ Regulation 36/2023 ”), which various sections of the general public have deemed controversial due to the imposition of limitations on the types of non-commercial, hand-carry goods that are permitted to be imported into Indonesia as the personal belongings of passengers, transportation crews and border crossers (collectively referred to as “ International Travelers ”), as well as Indonesian migrant workers (Pekerja Migran Indonesia– “ PMI ”).
