Railways - The Ending of the Monopoly

The recently passed (27 March 2007) Law on Railways has spent a long time within the House of Representatives (DPR) before the factions were able to agree. The new Law has been under debate since November 2005. The Law includes 19 Chapters and 218 Articles which is a considerable increase over the 151 Articles that formed the original Bill. The new Law was necessary to ensure that the regulatory framework for railways complies with the provisions of LawNo. 5 of 1999(Anti-Monopoly Law). The Law will replace LawNo. 13 of 1992.
