Ratified, UN Convention Against Corruption

Earlier this week the People DPR has passed the bill ratifying the UN Convention Against Corruption 2003 (“Convention”), which came into force in December 2005. The Convention was drafted for two years following a UN Plenary Session in 2000, which mandated a global legal instrument against corruption. Indonesia now joins approximately 50 counties that have ratified the Convention from a total of 143 signatories. The ratification was made with reservation to Article 66 (2) of the Convention, which provides jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice over disputes relating to interpretation and enforcement of the Convention. This reservation stems from the Indonesian policy that does not recognize ICJ’s compulsory jurisdiction.
