In a bid to implement a renewal of Indonesia’s criminal justice system in a way that prioritizes restorative justice, that emphasizes restoration to an original state and that manages to balance the protection and interests of victims and perpetrators of criminal acts, [1] Indonesia’s Office of the Attorney General recently issued Regulation No. 15 of 2020 on the Termination of Prosecution Based on Restorative Justice (“ Regulation 15/2020 ”), which also aims to manifest in a concrete form the notion that criminal sentencing should not be aimed at retaliation or revenge but at recovery.
