The Secretary General of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association, Maulana Yusran, stated that his organization and Commission VII of the House of Representatives are reviewing sources of funding for tourism development under the Draft Bill on the Third Amendment to Law No. 10 of 2009 (“ Law 10/2009 ”) on Tourism (“ Tourism Draft Bill ”).
“There is a matter regarding levies or retribution on foreign tourists. This is currently under discussion,” he said to Hukumonline.
The budget can later be used independently. The mechanism involves the national tourism agency as the program maker, with funding coming from the Tourism Business Service Agency.
The foreign tourist levy should, as much as possible, avoid overlapping with other sectors such as visas, in order to prevent conflicts with related agencies.
