The government is finalizing the Draft Regulation of the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal– “ BPJPH ”) on Halal Certification for Micro- and Small-scale Business Actors (“ UMK ”). This policy aims to simplify the halal certification process through the Halal Product Assurance System (Sistem Jaminan Produk Halal/SJPH).
“This policy is expected to provide ease in fulfilling halal certification obligations as mandated by Article 98 paragraph (10), Article 101, and Article 103 of Regulation of the Government No. 42 of 2024 (“ PP 42/2024 ”)” said Indrayani, Head of the Legal, Human Resources, and Public Relations Bureau of BPJPH, in an interview with Hukumonline.
This regulation will strengthen the halal product guarantee system in Indonesia. As halal products are goods and/or services that have been declared compliant with Islamic law, they include food, beverages, medicine, cosmetics, chemical products, biological products, genetically engineered products, as well as utilitarian goods used or consumed by the public. As a form of government support for small business actors, applications for halal certification for UMK will not incur any fees.
"In accordance with its provisions, the regulation is currently undergoing a harmonization process," she added.
