The Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan – “BPOM”) is currently drafting a regulation on the procedures for calculating the nutritional content of food products based on the raw materials used. The draft regulation will facilitate the calculation of the nutritional content of raw materials not yet covered under Decision of the Head of BPOM No. 265 of 2026 on Nutritional Content Values for Processed Foods Produced by Micro-scale Enterprises (“Decision 265/2026”).
Salsabila Nadien, a Junior Expert Food and Drug Inspector at BPOM, stated that Decision 265/2026 regulates 465 types of food ingredients for which nutritional information must be provided. According to her, the new draft regulation will supplement the existing regulation issued in June 2026.
“Going forward, we will facilitate the calculation of nutritional content for raw materials that are not yet included among the 465 types of food ingredients listed in the Decision of the Head of BPOM. The regulation is still being drafted,” Salsabila stated.
She explained that the draft regulation will govern food product descriptions and nutritional data, serving size conversions, and the scope of food categories subject to regulation.
In addition to drafting the regulation, BPOM is developing a feature within its Nutritional Information (Informasi Nilai Gizi – “ING”) label-printing application to enable business actors to independently calculate nutritional content based on the raw materials used. In the meantime, BPOM encourages food producers that wish to include ING labels on their products to conduct laboratory testing.
