The National Agency of Drug and Food Control (“BPOM”) ak will review distribution permits and labeling for the use of nitrous oxide (“N2O”) in food additives. These regulations will be tightened to prevent misuse.
“We will evaluate and regulate it very strictly. Because it is used for food,” said Head of BPOM, Taruna Ikrar.
The evaluation will also tighten regulations on distribution permits and labeling of N2O gas in food additive products, such as whipped cream. In the future, not all kitchens will be allowed to use N2O in food production.
BPOM is also collaborating with the Police and the Ministry of Health to develop legal enforcement against the misuse of N2O. “It should not only be related to anesthesia, but also other things. There are no regulations for this yet,” said Taruna.
