BSN Prepares Cross-Sector SNI Formulations

The National Standardization Agency (Badan Standardisasi Nasional – “BSN”) is preparing measures to strengthen Indonesian National Standards (Standar Nasional Indonesia – “SNI”) through a program for formulating standards across various sectors. This program is aimed at ensuring the availability of national standards that are aligned with development priorities.

The Acting (Plt.) Head of BSN, Yustinus Kristianto Widiwardono, stated that the formulation of SNI is carried out to support the need for national standards that are in line with development priorities and are implemented through coordination with relevant ministries and agencies.

“The preparation of program for technical regulatory needs based on SNI is, of course, carried out in collaboration with the ministries or agencies that will later issue the technical regulations,” he said.

This year’s SNI formulation covers various fields aligned with national development. In the downstream industry sector, BSN is preparing SNI for, among others, machinery, components, and production processes. In the food sector, SNI formulation is directed toward products and commodities such as processed foods, fisheries, and value-added food ingredients.

In addition, SNI formulation also covers the energy sector, including wind energy, geothermal energy, hydrogen, and supporting technologies for energy generation. With respect to environmental and disaster aspects, SNI are being formulated to support environmental management, waste handling, land reclamation, and the strengthening of regional resilience.
