Commission VI of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (“ DPR RI ”) confirms that they will expedite the discussion of the Draft Amendment to Law No. 5 of 1999 (“ Law 5/1999 ”) on the Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices and Unfair Business Competition (“ Anti-Monopoly Draft Bill ”). Member of Commission VI of DPR RI, Darmadi Durianto, stated that the immediate completion of Anti-Monopoly Draft Bill is necessary to ensure its relevance for the protection of domestic industries.
“We want this to be completed immediately because the situation requires us to protect domestic industries,” said Darmadi to Hukumonline.
To address the issue of unfair business competition, Darmadi stated that the Anti-Monopoly Draft Bill will regulate several provisions, including: strengthening the Institutional Framework of the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha–“ KPPU ”), supervision and prevention of predatory pricing, a leniency program, and improvements to merger and acquisition regulations.
“We will resolve the predatory pricing issue. The current state of e-commerce and trade within e-commerce is unhealthy,” he explained
