The Ministry of Trade, through the Directorate of Consumer Empowerment, is drafting the Consumer Protection Bill ("RUUPK"). This new regulation is designed to be more adaptive to modern developments, particularly in accommodating e-commerce transactions.
Dwi Tiara, a Junior Trade Analyst at the Ministry of Trade, stated that one of the government's initiatives in RUUPK is a standardized contract model to be formulated tripartitely with the involvement of the government, business actors, and business associations. This aims to prevent the inclusion of clauses that disadvantage consumers, especially in e-commerce transactions.
“The standardized contract model ensures that no business entity creates agreements that include provisions detrimental to consumers,” said Dwi.
RUUPK also promotes the facilitation of more efficient and effective online consumer complaint and dispute resolution mechanisms. Strengthening the Consumer Dispute Settlement Body ("BPSK") in RUUPK is crucial, as it will ensure that rulings are final and binding, preventing unnecessary appeals.
