The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (“Coordinating Ministry”) has resumed the formulation of Draft Regulation of the President (“Draft Regulation”) on Critical Strategic Minerals, which had previously been halted. Heri Permana, Deputy Assistant for Mineral and Coal Development at Coordinating Ministry, confirmed that the Draft Regulation, which was initially initiated by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, will be discussed according to the latest status of the discussions.
“We have previously kicked off again and restarted, meaning we must not let what has already been done stop or stall, causing us to have to start from scratch again,” said Heri.
Heri emphasized that the Draft Regulation focuses on the governance of 47 types of critical minerals and 22 strategic minerals that have been stipulated by the government. According to Heri, the formulation of this regulation takes into account the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) parameters, with attention to environmental and social aspects.
Heri hopes that this Draft Regulation will serve as an effort to synchronize regulations and optimize cross-ministerial/agency collaboration in the mineral and coal sector, thereby impacting the growth of state revenue.
“The final key point is to optimize state revenue, which ultimately leads to the welfare of the community,” he added.
