Badan Siber dan Sandi Negara (“BSSN”) is intensively discussing the Draft Bill on Cyber Security and Defense (“Draft Bill”). Deputy Head of BSSN, Maria Widyaningsih said that they are finalizing provisions on administrative sanctions and criminal regulations to strengthen the protection of the national cyberspace and digital ecosystem.
“This includes mechanisms and eligibility certifications, such as Data Protection Officers (“DPO”),” said Maria who is also the chair of the Working Group (Pokja) for the Preparation of the Draft Bill, to Hukumonline.
Broadly speaking, the Draft Bill has a role and responsibility in preventing and responding to cyber incidents, whether they threaten national security, state sovereignty, economic stability, or social welfare. The Draft Bill has been included in the list of 2025 Priority National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
“With this regulation in place, there is certainty regarding clear protection mechanisms. We aim to submit it to the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (“DPR RI”) for harmonization by the end of this month,” she explained.
