Deputy for Waste, Hazardous Waste, and Toxic Substances Management at the Ministry of Environment, Ade Palguna Ruteka, stated that Danantara Indonesia is currently exploring an investment plan in waste processing through Waste-to-Energy (“ WTE ”) technology. The government is still in the process of discussing the cooperation mechanism.

“It appears that they are interested in investing in WTE. In the meantime, we are responsible for the technology,” Ade told Hukumonline.

The WTE project is considered a solution to the problem of waste accumulation while simultaneously producing renewable energy. Danantara’s involvement is expected to accelerate the construction of WTE facilities through an integrated cooperation scheme.

The Ministry of Finance and PT PLN are also involved in the plan. These two parties have the authority to determine which entity will be granted the opportunity to participate in the project.

“This is because the technology must be compatible with PLN’s established mechanisms,” he added.
