The Parliament is still reviewing amendments to Law No. 31 of 2004 on Fisheries (“ Fisheries Law ”). There will be updates to the definition that will be regulated.
“There will be definitions for fishermen, traditional fishermen, small-scale fishermen, female fishermen, young fishermen/apprentices, and coastal,” said Riyono, a member of Commission IV of the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat– “ DPR ”), to Hukumonline.
In the current law, only the definitions of fishermen and small-scale fishermen are included. Another potential benefit of the planned amendment is investment. On a national scale, it is expected to attract foreign investment, but the government will continue to prioritize domestic business actors.
