The Directorate-General of Intellectual Property (“DJKI”) is currently preparing a Draft Regulation of the Minister of Law on Services in the Copyright and Communal Intellectual Property Sector. Director-General of Intellectual Property Hermansyah Siregar stated that this draft regulation of the minister aims to streamline the governance of copyright and communal intellectual property services, which have previously been regulated separately under various regulations of the minister.
“Its drafting is part of efforts to streamline and simplify regulations to achieve more effective and efficient services,” Hermansyah told Hukumonline.
In addition to simplifying the administrative licensing requirements for Collective Management Institutions (“LMK”), this draft regulation will change the mechanism for collecting and distributing music royalties. The draft regulation will also regulate the secondary use licensing scheme for literary works and books, including their use by artificial intelligence (“AI”) developers.
Furthermore, this draft regulation aims to strengthen the legal protection of communal intellectual property (“KIK”) through the development of an integrated electronic data center.
