The Legislation Body (“Baleg”) of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (“DPR RI”) is currently preparing Draft Bill on the Protection of Domestic Workers (“Household Workers Draft Bill”). This regulation governs the establishment of a new agency to resolve disputes.
“In the agreement that has been made, there will be one agency to resolve every dispute,” said Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan to Hukumonline.
The establishment of this new agency is intended to serve as a mediator to prevent material lawsuits from domestic workers against employers. This also alleviates concerns that the Domestic Workers Draft Bill could lead to the criminalization of employers.
The DPR RI Baleg is still awaiting input from the Ministry of Manpower on this matter. The Domestic Workers Draft Bill is targeted for completion this year after being delayed for two decades.
